It was just shy of two years that we lived in our micro cargo trailer. One year and Ten months. We put so much love, sweat, and tears into it – it was a true labor of love. In a sense, it was our first baby.
We were living on Ben’s boss’ property at the time (may he rest in peace) and I was working at a veterinary office in Boulder Colorado. My husband was out working construction as he does, and when I would come home by night after a long commute, he would have another piece of our project completed. Be it the beautiful door, the windows he cut out and put in, the A/C unit that I was SO thankful for that he found waiting to be hauled off to the dump. It was in perfect working condition and it ended up serving us so well.
During the winter, his boss told us to pull our trailer into his shop so we could work on it and stay warm. We ended up pulling our bed out of the trailer and slept in the shop so we could build the bed frame and the gravity fed sink counter. I’ll never forget it, it felt like we were in a snow globe, there was one of Colorado’s infamous blizzards going on outside while we worked away inside.
If you scroll back you can find a post I did on that. I am keeping up the old posts and will be updating the rest of the blog. And possibly starting a channel as well to showcase the work we are doing on the bus. TikTok maybe? Instagram? We shall see. Let me know in the comments.
On the flip side of the cold that would swoop in so suddenly there, there were so many beautiful Colorado sunsets we watched out of the back hatch of that trailer and looking back, I didn’t realize how magical it was, but I long for it, and we are working to get back to it. We cannot wait to show our kids the magic of it.
By the time we traveled back to the PNW, Ben was able to work on the finishing touches of the trailer with his Dad in a project to get the shelving built. They got it done in a day and the next day I spent staining it a beautiful grey coloring.
As I said, the trailer was our baby, our first love project together, and it’s gone on many a trip with us since 2016. It has truly been amazing to have, great to skip a hotel fee and stay in it on a road trip. For years to come, she’s going to be in tow.
